Frost Notes

Anthology

Ed Orr

Ed Orr's ironic variation on his favorite Frost line "Nature's first green is gold" comes from the nature of the plant he describes. In this case, the green-hoarding sedum earns its common name-- Live Forever.

Sedum (Live Forever)

It hoards its green
the way some hide
their age, fools' gold.

In time, its green
turns wine red,
shades of purple.

Late summer, fall--
the seasons call.

But green almost
doesn't flower.

Ed Orr has published eight chapbooks and his poetry has appeared in The New York Times and Yankee Magazine. He received the Ommation Press poetry book award in 1999.
